Although they had a previous agreement that Kimu would share some of the techniques of metal crafting that he has learnt from the Ainu, when John tries to learn from him Kimu is distracted by his challenge to be much of a teacher and is a bit brusque. John makes a few tries to apply himself, but gives up in the face of "You're not doing it right!", instead going to the CAE and doing a short course in jewelery creation. It isn't until after the April Moot when John has headed into the Umbra with Thomas that Kimu starts to consider other things apart from the song. Considering the issue, he creates a short and rather touching elegy for Peter for John alone ("words to remember a loved one with rather than the story of his life").
