Boonah was a very brave and capable hunter of a tribe who lived at the foot of Mount Giya. Boonah was the main hunter for the tribe. He was brave and wise and all the animals knew him. As was his way, he always sang songs to the animals and made dances for them before he went hunting. When Boonah killed an animal with his boomerang, he sang a sad but beautiful song to thank the animal spirit for giving up its life, so that Boonahs tribe would live and prosper. Because of his skill, most of the other members of Boonah's tribe did not need to hunt. They became artists. Boonah also loved to paint but he was not very good at it so he did not paint where others could see. He went deep into the caves at the foot of the mountain and painted his dreaming to the spirits of the cave. Now there were many other tribes living in this part of the country. Most were hard-working gatherers and artists and everyone obeyed their totem laws so there was food enough for everyone. One tribe, however, did not follow the dreamtime laws. They were the wolf tribe. They were lazy and arrogant. They had stolen food from other tribes so Biami, the good spirit, had banished them to the top of the mountain. There they were forced to find food in the gloomy, dark forest. This forest was home to slimy, green Bunyip; the pointy-toothed, evil one. He did not like the wolf tribe and plotted to get rid of them so that he could have the forest all to himself again. The wolf tribe knew this but they were careless, as lazy people tend to be....
